Can You Cook?

I think everyone should learn to cook proper, healthy meals. When you do know how to cook then you don’t have to use those skills all the time, you can still cook simple things for most meals, but it means you can make even simple dishes more tasty and healthy. Instead of just sticking a frozen pizza in then you could use a frozen pizza base instead and put your own fresh toppings on, instead of a microwave casserole then you could make a simple pasta bake. You don’t have to feel pressured into being really good like a celebrity chef either, you only really need to learn the basics, who cares if you can’t dice fast or you are no good at making pastry? At least you will be able to make healthier choices when you know how to cook fresh food.

Even when you know how to cook everything the traditional way then that doesn’t stop you buying some gadgets to help you out, like those chip fryers that use very little oil, or an indoor turkey fryer which cooks turkeys super fast, they all help out. Of course a turkey fryer is hardly the most healthy kitchen gadget, but you get the idea!

If you are serious about learning to cook then you need to start searching for classes, enquire at your local colleges and you will probably find they have some classes in the evening going on. Or if you fancy more of a challenge then there are tons of free videos on the internet which can teach you different techniques. You really need a computer in the kitchen if you want to learn that way though, but at least it is free!
